EAST LANSING - From nuclear physics to elementary and secondary education, Michigan State University has five graduate programs ranked by U.S. News and World Reports this year as the best in the nation.

In U.S. News' latest assessment, 10 MSU graduate programs ranked among the top 10 nationwide. The majority of those programs were within its College of Education, including a tie for number one with the University of Michigan for the best higher education administration program.

Among education schools, MSU ranked 22nd this year, eight spots behind U of M but one ahead of Ohio State University.

“These top rankings reflect the insightful and influential contributions of our faculty and alumni, whose work touches all levels of education,” Robert Floden, dean of the College of Education, said in a statement released by the university.

MSU's nuclear physics program also held onto the number one spot this year, which it took over from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2010. The university's Facility for Rare Isotope Beams, a soon-to-be world-leading nuclear physics research site, is expected to employ hundreds of scientists and attract thousands of visiting scholars when it is completed in 2021.
