Husband steals covers from wife, strangles her in Jackson Twp., cops say

A man who tried to steal the bed covers from his wife early Saturday morning in Jackson Township allegedly strangled her when she tried to move him to the living room, charging documents state.

Northern York County Regional Police arrested Kurt Brenner, 31, of the first block of Quartz Ridge Drive, charging him with strangulation, simple assault and harassment. On Sunday, there was no information on Brenner's arraignment, either from online dockets or York County Prison.

About 2:14 a.m. on Saturday, Brenner's wife, Candise Brenner, called police to her home for a report of a physical domestic disturbance, documents state.

Once there, they spoke with Candise Brenner, who said her husband had some friends over for a party, but that she retired to the bedroom about 10:30 p.m. About 12:40 a.m., Brenner came into the room and fell on his wife while trying to get into bed, documents state.

Candise Brenner said her husband fell asleep, but then began talking to himself, which prevented her from sleeping. She then led him to the living room with a pillow and blanket and went back to bed, documents state.

At some point, Brenner came back in the bedroom and "began grabbing at her covers." She resisted his efforts; however, he began to get more physical. Candise Brenner was eventually able to get her covers away from her husband and went to the living room to sleep, but he followed her, documents state.

"She advised when he came into the living room, he laid his body on hers while pushing her head in between the couch cushions with his elbow," documents state. "She advised she was having trouble breathing and 'saw stars.'"

She tried to scream for her husband's friends, who were sleeping nearby, but they could not hear her. She then yelled at him, "You're going to kill me," documents state.

Police then tried to speak with Brenner, who was "supposedly fake sleeping on the couch," documents state.

Once police began speaking with his wife, a "visibly intoxicated" Brenner jumped up from the couch. He said none of what his wife was saying was true and that he had been sleeping the entire time, documents state.

Police arrested Brenner and took him to Central Booking.
