Birthday celebration turns violent over shoes, police say

An alcohol-fueled birthday celebration turned violent Friday night in Manchester Township as a man grew angry when his girlfriend asked if he could put her shoes away, charging documents state.

Lewis E. Green III — who turned 31 that day — allegedly lashed out at girlfriend Margarita Tirado and was arrested on charges of strangulation, simple assault and harassment, documents state.

As of Sunday, Green remained in York County Prison on $75,000 bail, according to the prison.

Just after 10:30 p.m. Friday, Northern York County Regional Police were called to Green's home in the 700 block of Greenbriar Road, Manchester Township, after a call was made to York County 911 during which a man could be heard yelling in the background at the female caller, documents state.

Once there, police met Tirado, who was standing outside on the porch. Tirado said earlier that night, she and Green were out celebrating his birthday. When they got home, Tirado asked Green if he could put her shoes in a closet, at which time Green became irate, documents state.

"Green grabbed her by the neck with both hands and threw her onto the bed and held her there by the neck," documents state. "Tirado stated she was unable to breath(e) and that was when she used her hands to scratch his neck in order to get him off of her."

Once Green let go of Tirado's neck, she tried to call 911, but Green was yelling for her not to, documents state.

Police could see a scratch on the left side of Green's neck and one on the right. Both Green and Tirado refused medical attention, documents state.
