Motorcycle rider passing on berm dies in Interstate 83 crash, police say

Dylan Barton, of Harrisburg, was "traveling at a high rate of speed" and tried to pass a vehicle on the east berm of I-83 N, police said.

A motorcycle rider died Friday following a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 83 in Manchester Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Police identified the rider as Dylan Barton, 25, of Harrisburg. He was riding a 2004 Honda CBR, they said.

Prior to the 5:16 p.m. crash, all three vehicles — Barton on the Honda, a 2014 GMC Sierra, driven by Michael Crnvoic, 40, of York, and a 2013 Toyota Tacoma, driven by Erik Jacobs, 25, of York — were northbound, police said.

Barton, who was "traveling at a high rate of speed," tried to pass the GMC on the east berm near mile marker 23. However, the Honda's front left side struck the rear passenger side of the GMC, police said.

After the initial impact, the motorcycle struck the back of the Toyota and was thrown. Barton and the motorcycle then struck a concrete barrier before stopping in the left northbound lane, police said. 

Barton was taken to York Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.

York County Coroner Pam Gay said Barton was wearing a helmet. Barton's cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma, and his manner of death was ruled accidental, There is no autopsy planned.
