A 28-year-old man was shot in the back early Monday morning in a drive-by shooting on Detroit's east side, police said.

The shooting took place about 1:45 a.m. in the 11200 block of Morang, said Officer Dan Donakowski, a Detroit Police Department spokesman. That's north of Interstate 94.

Police say the victim was walking on Morang when shots were fired from a burgundy Chrysler 200. Police believe someone sitting in the rear passenger seat of the vehicle fired the shots.

Shell casings were recovered from behind a dry cleaner on Morang. At least seven shots were fired.

The victim is in stable condition. Police are investigating.
