The top three wrestlers from the District 3 Class 2A sectional tournament advance to the District 3 tournament.

The District 3 Section 4 Class 2A wrestling championships at Bermudian Springs High School Saturday showcased the sport well, with underdog wins, a few 100-wins celebrations and the emotions — high and low — that high school wrestling exposes.

The host Eagles had the most to celebrate, sending all but two wrestlers to the District 3 tournament (top three advance from each weight class), highlighted by Landon West (120) and Darren Beall (152) earning their 100th wins during it all. Bermudian also won the team competition with 199 points.

West turned Hanover's Colton Angel to his back in 38 seconds for his 100th career win in the quarterfinals. He finished the day taking second place in the 120 pound bracket, losing a tight 1-0 decision to Biglerville's Josh Tuckey in the championship.

Beall came into his 152-pound quarterfinal match with 99 career wins, and after getting caught in a cradle by Kennard-Dale's Jacob Rose, had to put off getting his 100th win until the consolation semifinals. But, none the less, he prevailed to beat Hanover's Jerod Flinchbaugh via pin, and wrestled back to take third place.

"I thought we had a heck of a tournament," Bermudian head coach Dave McCollum said. "The only disappointment was Darren Beall getting caught ... but battling back and taking third (place) was huge for him."

Both West and Beall are seniors and captains on the Eagles' squad and brought in the No. 1 seed into the tournament.

However, there were only three weight classes where the top three seeds finished in order: 106, 182 and 195.

Biglerville advanced five wrestlers into the District 3 tournament. Blake Showers (106), Josh Tuckey (120), Eli Tuckey (126), Nick Wright (182) and Brent Hayes (220) all made it out of Section 4.

Showers was the only Canner that had the No. 1 seed entering the tournament, but not the only Canner to finish in first place. He was joined by Josh Tuckey (No. 2), Eli Tuckey (No. 2) and Hayes (No. 3).

Hayes grinned ear-to-ear after his hard-fought 7-2 win over Eastern York's Carl Carbaugh in the 182 championship bout.

Biglerville's Brent Hayes, right, wrestles Eastern York's Carl Carbaugh during the 220-pound championship. Hayes won, 7-2, Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018, at Bermudian Spring High School. The top three wrestlers from the District 3 Class 2A sectional tournament advance to the District 3 tournament.

"He's been doing a great job working hard in the room with creating more offense for himself," Biglerville head coach Ken Haines said of Hayes. "(With) his work rate, he's scoring more on his feet, and I think that's what the difference was for him this year."

The Tuckey brothers both had repeat finals matches in the championship, and both were victorious again this year.

Haines said that the brothers' pace in the wrestling room has been elevated, attributing their condition to their growing success.

The Kennard-Dale Rams finished second in team points, with 147.5, sending eight to the District tournament; Biglerville finished third, with 104 team points, advancing five; and Littlestown capped off sectionals with fourth place in team points, at 95.5, taking five wrestlers to districts.

The District 3 wrestling tournament begins Thursday and runs through Saturday at the Giant Center in Hershey.
