A Non-Traditional Approach to Valentine's Day Candles

It's nearly Valentine's Day, romance is in the air; as is the scent of over-priced red roses, neatly lined up in just about every Supermarket on the high street. Single, loved up or indifferent - the 14th is the perfect excuse to treat yourself to something you want not need, but rather something a little more luxurious than perhaps you'd normally purchase and something a little longer lasting than a dozen wilted blooms. I suggest a candle (don't I always?), actually I have no less than three floral tinged indulgences that are perfectly suited to celebrate the day of love and then add ambience to the rest of February too.

Fun, fruity and extravagant, who wouldn't want to display the Ashleigh & Burnwood Wild Things Pinemingos Candle  (£38), front and centre. Not only is the delicate but tropical pineapple, lychee and coconut scented candle perfect for chasing away any Winter blues, the storage container is frankly something to marvel at. The bright but stylish Flamingo print will add a splash of colour to any room and can be re-purposed as a keep safe jar once the candle is depleted. A new favourite find of mine and a brand I can't wait to explore further.

For those who couldn't ever imagine themselves enjoying anything rose scented, let alone a product to fragrance the home, I implore you to give Diptyque Rose Delight (£50), a chance. It is unlike anything else and will make a believer out of you yet. Think candied and sugary notes combined with powdery, soft rose petals to create a modern take on the delicacy of Turkish Delight. It's nostalgic, it's sweet and it's Diptyque - you can't really go far wrong but you will have to be quick as this is proving to be a tricky scent to source as it is very much limited edition.

So maybe you can't be convinced to embrace Rose notes and long for Peony season once again? Well until that day, you can enjoy the light and utterly darling scent of Grace Cole Vanilla Blush and Peony Candle (£20). The sweet but comforting hint of creamy Vanilla helps set this aside from other dusky Peony offerings - it is the ultimate addition to any cosy night at home, and also the most perfect gift should you be partaking in either Valentine's Day or Galentine's Day this year. If you do decide to peruse the Grace Cole website (and I highly recommend that you do) please use the code SUNDAYGIRL15 for a 15% discount on any purchases.
