Weather: Flood warning remains in effect, lake effect snow possible

Times Herald
Water covers the road on Loretta Street in East China Township.

Lake effect snow showers could bring an additional inch of snow this morning to areas immediately along the Lake Huron shoreline, according to the National Weather Service.

Light snowfall is expected to spread across the region on Monday. The potential exists for an accumulation of an inch or two during the daylight period.

A flood warning remains in effect until 8 a.m. Monday. The combination of strong northerly winds and ice blockage will sustain high water levels along portions of the St Clair River. This will maintain the potential for flooding of roads, homes, and structures near the St Clair River through the weekend.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, the water level at the St Clair gauge had increased to 579.5 feet. Rapid fluctuations should be expected as the ice condition in the river channel continues to change.

According to residents in the Pointe Drive area, the water levels have dropped.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Port Huron, St. Clair, East China, Algonac, Marine City, Harsens Island and Pearl Beach.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. All interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.
