LANSING - A Lansing man is in critical condition after someone broke into his home and shot him early Tuesday morning, police say.

Police were called at 1:45 a.m. to the 400 block of Dunlap Street, near McLaren Greater Lansing's Greenlawn Campus on the city’s south side, on the report of a shooting, said Lansing Police Public Information Director Robert Merritt.

Investigators believe the suspect broke into the single-family home through the front door, then shot the resident after a confrontation, Merritt said.

The 30-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital and remained in critical condition Tuesday morning, Merritt said. The man’s family was home, but nobody else was injured.

Police believe the suspect ran to a vehicle parked about a block away after the shooting, Merritt said.

It was not immediately clear whether the victim was targeted or the break-in was random, he said.

Investigators ask anyone who saw a suspicious vehicle parked on the 2900 block of Palmer Street or other suspicious activity in the vicinity to call police at 483-4600 or Crime Stoppers at 483-7867.
