Hot new trailer: Steven Spielberg gets back to the future in 'Ready Player One'

A new trailer for Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One is here, and, hoo-boy, that is some retro pop-culture goodness.

That would include the Back to the Future DeLorean and a club scene where someone is unmistakably wearing a red Devo hat. A less-welcome throwback: Mark Rylance’s terrible bleached-blond perm wig.

The sci-fi flick, based on Ernest Cline’s novel, is set in dystopian Columbus, Ohio, circa 2045, where everyone is obsessed with OASIS, a virtual-reality system that allows you to live your best life. Rylance plays company founder James Halliday, a Steve Jobs-like figure who dies but thoughtfully leaves behind an Easter egg: Whoever finds it inherits control of OASIS.

Tye Sheridan and Olivia Cooke star as two of the gamers. Sheridan’s character Wade Watts/Parzival appears to have, um, a leg up on the competition in the new poster, something Twitter is having way too much fun with.

The movie hits theaters March 30, 2018.
