Nike to name two new buildings after Mike Krzyzewski, Serena Williams

Nike will name a new fitness center after Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and a building that covers 1 million square feet after tennis superstar Serena Williams, the company announced Wednesday.

The new buildings come as part of the company's headquarters expansion in Beaverton, Ore. Two other venues are also in the fold, including a building dedicated to two-time Olympic gold medal-winning middle distance runner Sebastian Coe, as well as a parking garage that "celebrates the sporting heritage of New York City."

The 47,000 square-foot workout facility named after five-time NCAA champion Krzyzewski is set to open in 2018, with the third floor featuring a basketball court that pays homage to Coach K, his family and Duke. Krzyzewski's Blue Devils just won a division of the Phil Knight Invitational, a college basketball tournament honoring Nike's founder, last month.

The building named after 23-time Grand Slam champion Williams, a Nike athlete since '03, will be the biggest on Nike's entire campus and is slated to be finished in 2019.

A trio of Northwest-based architecture firms (ZGF Architects, SRG Partnership and Skylab Architecture) have guided design. Hoffman Construction built the facilities and PLACE provided landscape architecture services.
