Spilled gasoline from chainsaw sparked fatal fire in Warrington Township, state police say

The Warrington Township man died from burns he sustained in the fire.

State police have released more details about a chainsaw fire that claimed the life of a Warrington Township man earlier this month.

David Michael Baker, 68, died Nov. 17 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown from burns he sustained in the fire. His death was ruled accidental.

The accident happened just after noon Nov. 16 at Baker's home in the 900 block of Detters Mill Road, state police said.

Police lights by night

Baker was working outside on a chainsaw when gasoline spilled from the power tool onto him, state police said in a news release. He was trying to start the chainsaw at the time. The gasoline ignited and caught the victim's clothes on fire.

Baker was unable to put out the fire before sustaining critical burns, the news release states. He initially was taken to York Hospital but then transferred to a burn center in Allentown.

No buildings were involved in the fire, the news release states.
