As you can imagine, I don’t need to do a great deal of beauty shopping and if I do, it’s almost never in an actual shop! But my sister (visiting at the weekend) wanted to go to Molton Brown so we ended up in the Covent Garden branch where I really did a lot of shopping!
Even though it was a very busy Saturday afternoon, it was a great experience – I loved the way the store was laid out, the little Christmassy decorations and the way the store smelled – plus, the service was amazing. I had only gone in for a couple of items for my brother in law and ended up coming out with MB Crackers and Baubles as well. You also get (with a £50 spend) two free 100ml shower gels of your choice – exactly the same as on-line but somehow far more enticing when they’re beautifully laid out in a rainbow of colours in front of you. Molton Brown has garnered the talents of paper engineer, Helen Musselwhite, to craft stunning silhouettes of London landmarks (Westminster Bridge, The Greenwich Royal Observatory and Regent Street to name a few) and the silhouette theme is very apparent in the stores.
It just made me realise how detached you become from the experience that makes buying gifts for others so lovely when you do it from a screen. I know it’s infinitely more practical not to have to carry your own body weight in shower gel home, but picking out the gifts from a shelf, having them boxed and be-ribboned and leaving with a couple of shower gels for myself made it worthwhile and enjoyable.
If e-shopping is your preferred option, the brand has a beautiful film on their website (HERE) that captures the mood and shows off the paper crafting and it really does set the mood. Clever.
