West Manchester Township Fire Department was on the scene of a gas leak on Altland Avenue at the intersection of North Diamond Street in the township Monday morning.

Columbia Gas crews work to access a line to cut off gas to a vacant home on Altland Avenue and North Diamond Streets in West Manchester Township.

According to Fire Chief Clifton Laughman, Columbia Gas was digging up the street to cut off the leak to a vacant house. The meter shutoff was in the house so they were unable to stop the leak until the street was dug up. The has has since been shut off, and crews are ventilating the home.

Children at nearby West York schools were to be kept inside for lunch to minimize walkers through the neighborhood.
