It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a ... meteor shower?

The Orionid meteor shower occurs every October, and while it's visible from Oct. 2-Nov. 7, the peak viewing time is Friday night into early Saturday morning. The Sierra Club said up to 30 meteors per hour might be visible during the shower's peak.

Pennsylvania is in a good place to see the meteors on Friday night. David Samuhel, Accuweather senior meteorologist and astronomy blogger, said the East Coast will experience clear skies and ideal viewing conditions on Friday night. After midnight will be the best time to catch a glimpse of the meteors because there will be more meteors per hour at that time.

The Orionid Meteor shower is expected to peak on Friday night into Saturday morning. The East Coast is expected to have the best weather conditions to view the shower.

To see the meteors, find a spot away from busy cities and towns to eliminate light pollution. It also takes about 45 minutes for eyes to adjust to the dark skies, so plan accordingly.

If you miss this weekend's meteor shower, Samuhel said the Geminids meteor shower will be the best one to view this year. The Geminids meteor shower will peak Dec. 13-Dec. 14.
