First quarter

Kyle Lisk (Facebook): Interested to see how we perform now that we’re finally playing some big time competition.

Vim (MSU Red Cedar Message Board) That drive was way too easy. Basically took advantage of all of our weaknesses. Time to adjust.

Joey Davis Sr. (Facebook): Yes I agree He did not follow thru with the catch and Spartans not looking hot but now see if we can answer their score.

@spartytalk (Twitter): Lewerke still needs get better at putting his throws on the correct shoulder. That way, you hit receivers in stride and avoid interceptions.

David Burt (Facebook): This is the worst possible start they could have had. Need to shake this off and turn it around.

Cam Lange (Facebook): This sucks. Been looking forward to this game all week. Now we gonna get stomped. And my step dad is an Irish fan...

SpartanRocky (MSU Red Cedar Message Board): Well, no. But not a good start. Young team getting it's first taste of adversity and their first game vs. a real P5 team. Let's see if they can settle down a bit.

@sportz5176 (Twitter): Big Boy drive..like it..Lewerke has some swag..

@ByGeoffPreston (Twitter): Watching Brian Lewerke run is a religious experience, I'm finding.

Joel Dice (Facebook): Wow. This game has my blood pressure through the roof already. Lol

Second quarter

Becket Jones (Facebook): Hasn't been perfect on D. But this is much more of a 2015 D than a 2016 D.

Chris Palmatier (Facebook): Our boys are playing tough as hell for having such a terrible start. Shows there is more leadership this year. They would have already folded last year.

Josh Robinson (Facebook): We get back in the game..then he turns it over again..let's hope the defense can hold them to 3.

@Sheehan_Sports (Twitter): That's a touchdown. Maybe cover him next time?

@JasonColthorp (Twitter): Not a smart challenge there. Really showed Dantonio's frustration with this game. Clearly a TD.

Cory Wright (Facebook): I think we make a comeback

Jeff Linforth (Facebook): PUT THE BALL AWAY!!!

Nick Frank (Facebook): LJ Scott coming back for a senior season?! Brutal start to the season for him.

@DarkoStateNews (Twitter): If the field were 99.5 yards long, LJ Scott would have 2 more rushing touchdowns this season.

@RyanSchuiling (Twitter): This could be... insurmountable. Cannot believe Scott continues to have these ball security issues. It is unfathomable.

Ian McHale (Facebook): Hello darkness my old friend

Third quarter

Keith Fabbri (Facebook): Thoughts on 1st half... Bright lights are a bit too much for the boys. Stupid unforced errors that ARE fixable. Without all those its 14-7 MSU. ND really hasn't done anything to lead other than be opportunistic. If they fix it and they can make a couple plays they can make this a game in the 2nd half.

Ryan Callery (Facebook): Lewerke is our guy. He’s got the skills, just young and making bad decisions. This game is done but we can’t give up on him - he’s got what it takes.

Michigan State football fans cheer as the Michigan State marching band takes the field.

Ian McHale (Facebook) If he would have missed that I think it would have devolved into full blown nihilism.

@jdubs88 (Twitter): Last time Notre Dame beat a team from B1G, Big-12, Pac-12 or SEC? October 17, 2015 (USC) 0-7 since.

Gary Brittan (Facebook): We get 'em off the field on 3rd down and then just give him a first down... that offsides is the same as a turnover.

@Jeremy_Dewar (Twitter): I didn't expect to win but this is awful seeing so many mistakes. Penalties and turnovers out of a bye week.

David Thuma (Facebook): No anger or emotion on the sideline, just sitting there and taking it. Have some pride!!!!!

@UpDeckJerkGuy (Twitter): When does basketball season start?

Rod Mc Huff (Facebook): I do feel proud of our team. Mistakes happen against good competition. Notre Dame is real folks. We rise with this experience.

Sparty Rogers (Facebook): The last fumble did MSU in, not justifying none of the turnovers but this team is very young. I expected many mistakes but not this bad but I can live with it.

Fourth quarter

Daniel Waswick (Facebook): What an implosion, hard to watch.....and it's not a good NDTeam!

Ross H. Yednock (Facebook): These are easily correctable mistakes. This team is young, but has some talent. I want to see how they respond to see if they have grit (and would love to see them stop making these silly mistakes).

@crazyraptorlady (Twitter): Absolutely no one is leaving around us .... still trying to be positive!!!  #SpartanForLife

ItsADoubleDion7 (MSU Red Cedar Message Board): That was pretty much the worst case scenario for this team. Turnovers are a major problem. Scott is a major problem. Have to find a way to correct or move past that.

DarcySparty (MSU Red Cedar Message Board): I don't know whether to harbor some hope for the rest of the season or weep uncontrollably into whatever beer I have left in my fridge.

Derek Bradley (Facebook): He (Lewerke) definitely deserves a chance. He's so exciting to watch that sometimes I forget he's just a sophomore. Coach D will coach him up and he'll get better. At least the fumble was on a 3rd down with him fighting for extra yards.

Football fans tailgate Saturday afternoon, Sept. 23, 2017, before MSU meets Notre Dame for the 8 p.m. kickoff.

Abdel Abdelrahman (Facebook): Turnovers cost us. We need to win next week. But this is going to come with the growing pains. Our defense played much better than the scoreboard indicated.

Post-game

@brianlewerke14 (Twitter): Appreciate all the fans that came out! Unfortunate result but we will bounce back. #GoGreen

@JosiahScott7 (Twitter): Relax.. We got this. #bounceback

@Cfrey_23 (Twitter): Tough loss. We will bounce back. Thank you Spartan Nation for coming out and supporting! #GoGreen
