A 6-year-old boy was flown by helicopter to Hershey Medical Center Friday night after he was struck by a car in the parking lots of the Spring Grove Soccer Complex, according to police.

There were no other reported injuries, according to York County 911.

Southwestern Regional Police were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. to the 5600 block of York Road (Route 116) for a 6-year-old who was run over by a vehicle, according to a news release.

The boy had run after a ball and was hit by a pickup, according to the release, which says police spoke with witnesses. The driver of the truck did not see the child, the release states.

Southwestern Regional Police Chief Greg Bean identified the child as a boy and said he was airlifted from the scene in serious condition. He expected the hospital to update the police department on his condition.

Bean said the driver of the truck stayed on scene and was speaking with police.

"We're still in the middle of investigating," Bean said. He said there were many kids there when the call first was reported.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Southwestern Regional Police at 717-225-1333.

According to its website, the soccer complex is home to the Spring Grove Soccer Association, a nonprofit youth soccer organization that opens itself up to players from around York County.

The association offers youth programs to kids ranging in age from 4 to 19. The fall season began last week, the association posted on Facebook.
