Sophomore forward Ryan Sierakowski runs the ball down the field on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016 during round one of the NCAA tournament against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville at DeMartin Stadium at Old College Field at Michigan State University. Michigan State lost in penalty kicks, 9-8, after two overtimes.

In at least one poll, the Michigan State men's soccer team is ranked No. 1 in the nation.

That honor comes courtesy of Top Drawer Soccer, which had the Spartans ranked 11th last week before they beat No. 19 Bowling Green and No. 18 Michigan last week, each by 1-0 scores.

But in two other polls, MSU isn't quite near the top. The Spartans are No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll and No. 9 in the one put out by College Soccer News.

Regardless of the rankings in any poll, one thing is clear — the Michigan State men's soccer team is really good. And it'll get another huge test Friday night when the Spartans host No. 3 Maryland at DeMartin Stadium.

The Spartans are unbeaten and untied on the year at 7-0-0 while the Terripans are 6-0-1.

The Spartans' leading scorer is Dejuan Jones, an East Lansing High School graduate, who has four goals and an assist on the year.

Two other local athletes on the team are Luke Menne (Grand Ledge) and Zach Kovan (Okemos). Neither has made an appearance so far this season.
