Penn State vs. Iowa: How to watch and what you need to know

While the offense is getting most of the rave reviews, Penn State's defense has made the most surprising turnaround in the Big Ten. It yielded only 30 rushing yards to sturdy Iowa and tormented QB C.J. Beathard throughout. Here, Kevin Givens sacks him in the second half.

Penn State's 41-14 demolition of Iowa last season was the team's fifth straight Big Ten win since the 49-10 walloping at the hands of Michigan. Now they will meet again Saturday in a night game at Kinnick Stadium.

Joe Moorhead's offense was confident and clicking and the defense held Iowa's Akrum Wadley, LeShun Daniels Jr. and quarterback C.J. Beathard to just 30 total yards rushing.

Saquon Barkley tallied 211 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns. Trace McSorley accounted for another two through the air on 240 yards passing and one on the ground with 40 yards rushing.

Saeed Blacknall got the scoring started with a 19-yard TD reception in the first. Barkley broke free for a 57-yard score in the second quarter, then later took a 44-yard reception to the house in the fourth. Tyler Davis booted a pair of field goals and late in the fourth Tommy Stevens got in on the action with a 13-yard scoring run.

Penn State:
2017 record: 3-0
2016 record: 11-3 [8-1 Big Ten East]
Head coach: James Franklin (4th year, 25-15 record)

Iowa:
2017 record: 3-0
2016 record: 8-5 [6-3 Big Ten West]
Head coach: Kirk Ferentz (19th year, 138-92)

Projected margin: Penn State is a 12-point favorite

Key returning players, Iowa: On the offensive side of the ball, it's all about senior running back Akrum Wadley. One of a pair of rushers who eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark last season for the Hawkeyes, Wadley is a shifty, speedster who can break off a long run. The Hawkeyes don't exactly sling the ball all over the field and sophomore quarterback Nathan Stanley only saw very limited action (9 total passing attempts) behind C.J. Beathard. On defense, Iowa returns one of the best linebackers in the Big Ten in Josey Jewel. They also return defensive end A.J. Epenesa to bolster what should be a stalwart defensive line.
