Olivia Palermo attended the 2017 CFDA Fashion Awards in June wearing one of her own Banana Republic x Olivia Palermo designs.

Last fall, Banana Republic teamed up with style star Olivia Palermo to promote its products, making her their women’s global style ambassador.

The brand has featured her monthly edits and favorite picks on its website and earlier this year, she curated a selection from their Spring 2017 collection for a series of pop-up shops.

But on Saturday, the retailer and Palermo unveiled their most ambitious collaboration yet: a 70-piece capsule collection at its store in New York's Flatiron District.

The City alumna, who was dressed head to almost-toe in her Banana Republic x Olivia Palermo line — she admitted her shoes were from Givenchy — looked relaxed and happy at the launch.

“We’re taking classic pieces and elevating and putting a nice touch and spin onto it,” she said of the collection, which included pieces ranging from $48 to just under $1,000."

The pieces fit Palermo’s carefully cultivated brand of romantic polish. Pleats and billowy fabrics like chiffon were in plentiful supply. There were silky calf-length skirts in muted mustard yellows, a paisley dress, brocaded jackets that gave the impression of weight without feeling heavy and velvety dresses with pussy-bow necklines.

“Everyone has some sort of uniform,” said Palermo. “Mine tends to be leather, sweaters and chiffons.”

Indeed, her collection included a pair of $598 leather pants, along with more moderately priced cable knit sweaters in the mid-$100 range. And chiffon in all forms was out in full force.

There was nothing particularly avant-garde about this collection; the most extreme — and expensive — item in the collection was a snakeskin leather trench coat with modest red buckles on the sleeves, which clocked in at $998. The buckles can be removed, Palermo said, and she suggested styling it with a white t-shirt and black skinny jeans.

Palermo hopes shoppers can view the pieces in her collection as pieces “you can keep in your wardrobe and build on ... Something you should think about when investing is am I going to have this piece as I get older? Can I wear this when I’m 16 and can I wear this when I’m 70?”
