Live blog: Lifeless Tigers crushed by Yankees again
FINAL: YANKEES 10, TIGERS 2
The Yankees crushed the Tigers for a second straight night in a 10-2 drubbing at Comerica Park.
Luis Severino threw 6.2 innings and was, at times, dominant. Severino struck out eight and allowed one run on six hits. The Yankees bullpen picked up where the youngster left off, as the Tigers struck out 13 times tonight.
Jordan Zimmermann was lit up over five innings of work. He gave up seven runs on nine hits. Most of the damage was done in the Yankees five-run third, putting the Tigers in a big hole early that they were never able to climb out of.
Ian Kinsler and Jose Iglesias each hit solo home runs for the Tigers, with Iglesias' dinger coming with two outs in the ninth.
Bottom 9th: Yankees 10, Tigers 2
Jose Iglesias brought a little life to Comerica Park with two outs in the ninth, drilling his fifth home run of the season over the fence in left field to give the Tigers their second run of the night.
Dixon Machado picked up a two-out double to left field, but that's where the fun came to an end, as Alex Presley grounded out to first to end the game.
John Hicks flew out to right field and Andrew Romine struck out swinging to start the frame.
Top 9th: Yankees 10, Tigers 1
Austin Romine (yes, that's Andrew's brother) singled to left field, but Chad Bell came back to strike out the side to get out of the frame.
Bell gave the Tigers four innings of relief. He struck out six and gave up two runs on five hits.
Bottom 8th: Yankees 10, Tigers 1
Justin Upton led things off with a double to left field, but the Tigers, per usual, weren't able to do anything with the man on base. Jacoby Jones struck out swinging, Nick Castellanos did the same and James McCann followed suit.
Top 8th: Yankees 10, Tigers 1
Ronald Torreyes notched a one-out single to left field. The Tigers had a chance to get out of the inning on a double play ball, but Ian Kinsler flipped a ball to first base without much thought as he tried to get the speedy Brett Gardner going down the line. Miguel Cabrera had no chance to get the ball and Gardner moved up to second, scoring on an Aaron Hicks RBI single. 10-1.
Bottom 7th: Yankees 9, Tigers 1
Andrew Romine drew a one-out walk and Jose Iglesias singled to center field to give the Tigers two men on base for the second consecutive inning. After Ian Kinsler struck out swinging, the Yankees decided to lift Luis Severino, whose pitch count had crept up to 100. Chad Green came in the game and struck out Alex Presley to end the threat.
John Hicks struck out swinging to leadoff the frame.
Top 7th: Yankees 9, Tigers 1
Chase Headley got back that run that Luis Servino gave up on Ian Kinsler's blast, hitting a two-out solo shot to left field to put the Yankees up 9-1.
Aaron Judge struck out swinging and Didi Gregorius grounded out to shortstop to start the frame.
Bottom 6th: Yankees 8, Tigers 1
Ian Kinsler put the Tigers on the board against Luis Severino with a towering solo home run to leadoff the sixth, trimming the Yankees lead to 8-1.
The dinger was just the third Tigers hit of the night, although things picked up shortly thereafter.
Alex Presley singled to right field and Justin Upton singled to left field. The Tigers couldn't do anything with the runners, as Miguel Cabrera flew out to right field, Nick Castellanos struck out swinging and Victor Martinez flew out to left field to end the inning.
Top 6th: Yankees 8, Tigers 0
Chad Bell entered the game for Jordan Zimmermann to start the sixth and immediately issued walks to Todd Frazier and Jacoby Ellsbury. Ronald Torreyes brought home Frazier with a single to left field to push the Yankees lead to 8-0.
With men on first and second, Bretty Gardner grounded into a fielder's choice, leaving runners on the corners. Bell was able to limit the damage by striking out Aaron Hicks and getting Gary Sanchez to ground out to shortstop.
Bottom 5th: Yankees 7, Tigers 0
Luis Severino hit John Hicks on the hand with two outs to give the Tigers their second baserunner of the night. Andrew Romine was able to single through the right side of the infield, but things came to a halt after that, as Jose Iglesias grounded out to shortstop to end the inning.
Nick Castellanos grounded out to shortstop and Victor Martinez grounded out to first to start the frame.
Top 5th: Yankees 7, Tigers 0
It appeared Jordan Zimmermann was going to get through the middle of the Yankees order unscathed in the fifth inning.
Not so fast.
Didi Gregorius hit a LONG ball out to one of the deepest parts of the ballpark in right-center field to put the Yankees on top 7-0.
Gary Sanchez grounded out to shortstop and Aaron Judge grounded out to first to start the inning.
Bottom 4th: Yankees 6, Tigers 0
Alex Presley lined out to first, Justin Upton struck out swinging and Miguel Cabrera did the same as the Tigers didn't put up much of a fight in the fourth.
Luis Severino has held the Tigers to one hit, striking out five on 47 pitches. Simply put: He's been dominant.
Top 4th: Yankees 6, Tigers 0
Ronald Torreyes doubled to left field with one out as Justin Upton showed no urgency to get the ball back in the infield to hold the youngster to what should have been a single. Luckily for the Tigers, Zimmermann didn't let things snowball on him again this inning. Brett Gardner flew out to center field and Aaron Hicks did the same to end the frame.
Bottom 3rd: Yankees 6, Tigers 0
Andrew Romine grounded out to first, Jose Iglesias grounded out to shortstop and Ian Kinsler flew out to center field as the Tigers had no answer for the Yankees drubbing of Ryan Zimmermann in the third inning.
Top 3rd: Yankees 6, Tigers 0
Jacoby Ellsbury notched a leadoff single to center field and Ronald Torreyes followed with a base hit to left field that put the first two men on for the top of the Yankees order. Brett Gardner's fly out to center field moved the runners to second and third, and Aaron Hicks was walked to load the bases for Gary Sanchez, who dropped a single into center field that scored two and made it 3-0.
Aaron Judge continued the onslaught with an RBI double to center field. 4-0.
Didi Gregorius kept it coming with an RBI single to center field. 5-0.
With runners on the corners, Chase Headley hit a sacrifice fly to center field. 6-0.
The frame finally came to an end when Zimmermann (yes, he's still in the game) got Todd Frazier to foul out behind the plate.

Victor Martinez beat the shift with a single to right field, but John Hicks became Luis Severino's third strikeout victim of the night to end the inning.
Miguel Cabrera grounded out to second and Nick Castellanos lined out to shortstop to start the frame.
Top 2nd: Yankees 1, Tigers 0
Didi Gregorius flew out to left field, Chase Headley grounded out back to the pitcher and Todd Frazier grounded out to shortstop as Jordan Zimmermann bounced back in the second inning.

Ian Kinsler flew out to right field, Alex Presley struck out swinging and Justin Upton struck out swinging as Yankees starter Luis Severino set the Tigers down in order.

After Ryan Zimmermann retired the first two hitters of the game, Gary Sanchez decided to make things interesting in the first inning, blasting a solo home run to left field to stake the Yankees to a 1-0 lead.
Aaron Judge dropped a two-out single into right field, but John Hicks caught him trying to steal to end the frame.
