A fight between two men known to each other Sunday morning in York ended when one shot the other in the head, according to charging documents.

York City Police arrested Pedro Juan Correa-Dejesus, 32, of York and charged him with aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. As of Monday, he remained in York County Prison on $250,000 bail.

The victim, Angel Jomar Santiago-Torres, 23, was taken to York Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

The two men knew each other previously and had been drinking alcohol before the shooting, which occurred about 1:45 a.m in the 400 block of West King Street, police said.

According to charging documents, the night before, Correa-DeJesus and wife Brenda Brens-Peguero went to a home in the 400 block of West King Street to visit a friend, Chaira Ayala-Santiago.

While there, Correa-DeJesus went to his car to get beer when Santiago-Torres arrived. As the four were outside, Correa-DeJesus saw Santiago-Torres throw Ayala-Santiago to the ground and then Ayala-Santiago say in response, "What's wrong with you," documents state.

Documents do not state the relationship, if any, between Ayala-Santiago and Santiago-Torres.

At that point, Correa-DeJesus and his wife decided to leave, but Santiago-Torres called Correa-DeJesus to him. As Correa-DeJesus approached, Santiago-Torres began striking him in the face, documents state.

Correa-DeJesus tried to block the punches and at that point, Santiago-Torres backed up to his car and squatted down behind the open driver's-side door.

Correa-DeJesus "did not know what Angel was doing," so he pulled his gun out and and fired a shot at the windshield of Santiago-Torres' car without aiming. The shot went through the windshield and struck Santiago-Torres in the head, documents state.

York City Police Lt. Troy Bankert said police developed Correa-DeJesus as a suspect through witnesses and found him at York Hospital, "taking care of his injuries from the fight."

A preliminary hearing for Correa-DeJesus before District Judge Joel N. Toluba is scheduled for Sept. 1, according to online court dockets.
