Detectives used spray-paint to mark the areas where they located evidence in an overnight shooting on Gas Avenue in York.

York City Police are investigating the second shooting in a 24-hour period in the city, with both male victims suffering gunshots to the head, according to police.

Police are releasing little information on the most recent shooting, which they say occurred at 1:10 a.m. Monday in the 200 block of East Gas Avenue.

The victim, Jamere Cherry, 28, of York, was shot once in the head and is in critical condition at York Hospital, York City Police Lt. Troy Bankert said later Monday morning.

"He was definitely targeted," Bankert said, but held back on releasing any further details, saying the case was still developing.

At the scene of the crime Monday morning, orange spray paint could be seen on the alley's asphalt and also on a nearby porch. There were more than a dozen numbered markers, although Bankert said those numbers stood for various pieces of evidence, not just shell casings.

Sunday shooting

About 1:45 a.m. Sunday, Angel Jomar Santiago-Torres, 23, was shot once in the head in the 400 block of West King Street. Torres was transported by a private vehicle to the hospital, according to the release.

Pedro Juan Correa-Dejesus, 32, of York was arrested in connection with the shooting.

"They were known to each other, they were drinking, they got into a fight," Bankert said Monday. "The suspect shot the victim in the head."

Bankert said police developed Correa-Dejesus as a suspect through witnesses and found him at York Hospital, "taking care of his injuries from the fight."

Dejesus was arrested for aggravated assault, according to police.
