CBS Sports: Michigan State had one of college basketball's top 5 best offseasons

Miles Bridges' return to Michigan State for his sophomore year made for a huge offseason for the Spartans, according to CBSSports.com.

Make no mistake, Marvin Bagley III's decision to reclassify to the 2017 recruiting class and then commit to Duke is a major shake-up for the upcoming college basketball season.

Michigan State, considered by many to be 2018 national title favorite, may not be in that spot anymore after Bagley's move. Bagley was not only the consensus No. 1 recruit in the 2018 class, 247sports put Bagley in the 1 spot for the 2017 class!

That's some talent right there.

Regardless of perhaps some shuffling in the title favorites landscape, that doesn't take away from Michigan State's offseason, one that saw the Spartans — surprisingly to some, not so much to those in-the-know — retain the services of Miles Bridges for at least another year.

And largely because of that, Michigan State made the top-5 cut for CBSSports.com's "Five college hoops programs with the best 2017 offseasons."

Writer Matt Norlander picked Duke, USC, Michigan State, LSU and Missouri to comprise his picks.

Writes Norlander:

While the sport will have a lot of star power next season, Bridges -- who is prone to power dunk a few times every game -- is as must-watch as anyone. And he's part of a fearsome sophomore foursome, flanked by point guard Cassius Winston, wing Josh Langford and center Nick Ward. As a result, the Spartans will be a consensus preseason top-five team and is a national title contender.

Also earning the Spartans plaudits was retaining assistant coach Dane Fife, who was heavily linked to the open Duquesne position but ultimately passed on the job.

Beyond that, Sparty was able to keep ace assistant Dane Fife, who turned down the Duquesne job. He's one of the top assistants in the country. With a strong team and staff intact, Izzo could have his strongest squad in a decade.

Unrelated to that, a shame Norlander didn't include Bridges' highlight-reel dunks during the Moneyball Pro-Am as bonus points for the Spartans' offseason. At least we enjoyed it, anyway.
