Police found a man who had been severely beaten when they responded to a call in the 1800 block of West Philadelphia Street early July 8. The victim told police that Hughes was responsible for his injuries, a warrant states.

Police say that Hughes entered the building through an unlocked back door and found his ex-girlfriend, who he believed had left him for another man.

Hughes argued with his ex-girlfriend and attacked the victim, the warrant states. The victim was beaten about the head and torso and was slammed head-first onto the floor.

The victim grabbed a tire iron, but Hughes managed to get it and beat the victim with it. Hughes also allegedly threw the victim head-first down some stairs, the warrant states.
