At its Rackspace::Solve customer event today in New York City, Rackspace launched a beta program with Google where it will offer managed services support for Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Among other things, Rackspace will provide customers with on-demand access to its cloud experts around the clock.
The partners hope to make the service generally available this fall.
Rackspace now offers managed services to customers on the three major U.S.-based public clouds: AWS, Microsoft Azure, and now, GCP.
Pivotal Partnership
Also today, Rackspace made a similar announcement with Pivotal. Rackspace will offer a managed version of Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
Pivotal Cloud Foundry allows companies to deploy applications to multiple cloud platforms, both private and public, as well as on bare-metal servers, with no changes to the application.
Ian Andrews, VP of products at Pivotal, said on a panel at Rackspace:Solve (which was live-streamed), “Every single one of our customers has at least two clouds. The challenge is: without a layer like Cloud Foundry you’re signing up for multiple developer and operational experiences. We’re going to be in a situation the next five to 10 years where we’re in multiple cloud environments.”
With Managed Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Rackspace will manage the software on any public or private cloud, as well as on customer-owned infrastructure. Those cloud platforms include AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Azure Stack, Microsoft Private Cloud, VMware, Rackspace OpenStack Private Cloud, and Rackspace OpenStack Public Cloud.
Customers who don’t want to dedicate resources for managing Pivotal Cloud Foundry will be able to completely offload operations and management tasks to Rackspace. Those tasks include managing upgrades and feature releases and integrating various services, such as MySQL and Redis.
Pivotal claims that more than one-third of the Fortune 100 use Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
