During a May stop in York, James Franklin talked of how Penn State's success in 2016 changed recruiting for the better. Now, they are getting the interest of some far-flung prospects they did not before ... like recent Florida commit Jordan Miner, a cornerback from the Tampa area.

Penn State's football recruiting net continues to expand as needed.

Florida four-star cornerback Jordan Miner announced via social media Thursday evening that he would become the 14th member of the Nittany Lions' 2018 recruiting class.

Miner, from Wiregrass Ranch High in the Tampa area, is the latest verbal commitment from far outside the Lions' usual recruiting territory. The other two defensive backs in the class are from Texas — cornerback Trent Gordon from Manvel and legacy recruit Isaiah Humphries from Sachse.

Offensive tackle Bryce Effner is from Aurora, Illinois.

Miner (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) is the eighth prestigious four-star recruit to pick Penn State this cycle, according to Scout.com. His other reported scholarship offers include Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Oregon and Wisconsin.

Miner and his family apparently were won over after a visit to Penn State last month.

Penn State now ranks sixth nationally in recruiting, just behind Oregon and just ahead of USC, according to Scout.com. Ohio State, meanwhile, has the No. 2 class, also with 14 recruits.
