Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

The Thirty-Second AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 2-7, 2018.

The purpose of the AAAI conference series is to promote research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and foster scientific exchange between researchers, practitioners, scientists, students, and engineers in AI and its affiliated disciplines. AAAI-18 will continue the tradition of previous AAAI conferences with technical paper presentations, invited speakers, workshops, tutorials, poster sessions, senior member presentations, competitions, and exhibit programs, all selected according to the highest standards. AAAI-18 will also include additional programs for students and young researchers.

Important Dates for the AAAI-18 Conference

  • July 1 – September 8, 2017: Authors register on the AAAI web site
  • September 8, 2017: Electronic abstracts due at 11:59 PM UTC-10 (midnight Hawaii)
  • September 11, 2017: Electronic papers due at 11:59 PM UTC-10 (midnight Hawaii)
  • October 16–19, 2017: Author feedback about initial reviews
  • November 9, 2017: Notification of acceptance or rejection
  • November 21, 2017: Camera-ready copy due at 5:00 PM PDT (California time)

The Computing Community Consortium (CCC) will be sponsoring a Blue Sky Ideas Conference Track as part of the Senior Member Presentation Track, which provides an opportunity for established researchers in the AI community to give a broad talk on a well-developed body of research, an important new research area, or a promising new topic. These presentations should provide a big picture view, in contrast to regular papers, which may focus on a specific contribution. Submissions include a proposal for a talk and a paper (in the AAAI format) covering the topic of the talk. Senior members of AI are researchers who are well established in their research area.

Important Dates for the Senior Member Presentation Track

  • September 22, 2017: Electronic submissions of talks and papers due
  • October 20, 2017: Notification of acceptance or rejection
  • November 21, 2017: Camera-ready versions at the AAAI office

In addition, the Thirtieth Annual Conference on Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence (IAAI-18) will be held February 4-6, 2018 in parallel with AAAI-18. IAAI focuses on successful applications of AI technology. The conference will use technical papers, challenge papers, invited talks, and panel discussions to explore issues, methods, and lessons learned in the development and deployment of AI applications; and to promote an interchange of ideas between basic and applied AI.

IAAI-18 will consider papers in three tracks: (1) deployed application case studies, (2) emerging applications or methodologies, and (3) challenge problem papers.

Important Dates for IAAI-18 Conference

  • July 1 – September 11, 2017: Authors register on the AAAI web site
  • September 11, 2017 (11:59 PM PST): Electronic papers due
  • November 21, 2017 (11:59 PM PDT): Camera-ready copy due
