A Sunday afternoon fire in the city displaced at least three adults and three children, according to a York City Department of Fire/Rescue Services official.

A fire caused heavy damage to a row home in the 900 block of W. Poplar St. in York.

The fire, which started at 902 W. Poplar St. at approximately 2 p.m. and extended into 900 W. Poplar St., did not cause any injuries, said Deputy Fire Chief Chad Deardorff.

"We were dispatched for entrapment. ... Did a search; did confirm that everybody did get out of the building," he said.

After a third floor wall started to collapse inward, first responders left the building following a horn blast.

At 2:20 p.m., an area resident learned of the fire by smelling smoke.

"I live a couple blocks away, and I could smell it," said Michele Walker.

At 2:40, visible flames could be seen escaping from the top floor.

Citing wind conditions, Deardorff said fighting the fire proved to be "very difficult." The fire was very advanced upon arrival, he said.

Neighbors at the scene helped first responders by providing shade and water.

According to York County 911, the fire was cleared at 4:42 p.m.

There were no reports of pets in the building. On Sunday afternoon, Deardorff had no information on the cause of the fire and said an investigation would occur after the fire was cleared.
