Competitors swam, biked and ran to the finish at the 13th YWCA Y-Tri race at Lake Redman Sunday.

Joe Kleindinst charges through the finish line to take first place in the YWCA-Y Tri. He is a teacher at Dallastown Area High School.

Dallastown Area High School alumnus and current teacher, Joe Klinedinst, won the race with a time of 1:12:44.

“I grew up traveling this road every day,” Klinedinst said after the race.

A new feature of the course this year included an open water swim from a York Water Company recreation area. While the swim was tough, Klinedinst and top female finisher Aimee Phillippi-Taylor, of Glenville, agreed that the biking was the hardest part.

“The hills on the bike make it tough,” Klinedinst said. “And all the downhills. As soon as you get to the bottom, it’s a crazy turn.”

Phillippi-Taylor added, “The challenge is maintaining your momentum. Having done the course a few times before I came really helped.”
