Spartans land fifth 2018 recruit from Ohio in LB Jeslord Boateng

Michigan State’s strong 2018 recruiting run in Ohio continued tonight.

The Spartans landed a commitment from Jeslord Boateng, a linebacker/defensive end from Dublin Coffman High. He becomes coach Mark Dantonio’s fifth recruit for next year from Ohio and seventh overall.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Boateng profiles as an outside linebacker according to the recruiting services 247Sports.com, Rivals.com and Scout.com, all of which list him as a three-star recruit. He said in his announcement on Twitter that playing Big Ten football has been his dream since he began playing football in seventh grade.

Boateng reportedly visited MSU on Sunday and picked the Spartans over Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Louisville and Pittsburgh. According to 247Sports.com, Boateng rates as the No. 40 player in Ohio and the No. 75 outside linebacker prospect nationally in the 2018 class.

Boateng joins a recruiting class that already includes Buckeye State products in four-star athlete Xavier Henderson and four-star tight end Trenton Gillison, both from Pickerington (Ohio) Central; three-star safety Michael Dowell from Lakewood St. Edward’s; and three-star linebacker Edward Warinner from Olentangy (Ohio) Liberty High. MSU also has commitments from three-star quarterback Theo Day from Dearborn Divine Child and three-star cornerback Christian Jackson from Marietta (Ga.) Lassiter;
