EAST LANSING – Tom Izzo added a second preferred walk-on for the upcoming Michigan State basketball season.

Michigan State and head coach Tom Izzo are the favorites to win the 2018 NCAA tournament, according to at least one Las Vegas sportsbook.

Brock Washington from Southfield Christian High announced via Twitter that he would be continuing his basketball career with the Spartans. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard from Detroit reportedly had interest from Oakland and a number of Mid-American Conference schools.

Washington helped lead the Eagles to the Class D state semifinals this winter and set their single-game scoring mark with 40 points against Plymouth Christian. He finished his high school career among Southfield Christian’s all-time leading scorers and its top three-point shooter with 148 for his career. He and his younger brother, Bryce, were both named Class D first-team all-state selections by The Associated Press.

MSU also added another 2017 preferred walk-on in Robert Morris transfer Braden Burke, who played at Lakeshore High and will sit out this season. The 6-11, 220-pound center averaged 4.3 points and 2.7 rebounds over 15.2 minutes per game for the Colonials last season as a true freshman. He started seven of the 32 contests in which he played, shooting 42.4% from the field.

The Spartans also still have one scholarship spot open for their 2017 roster after signing Jaren Jackson Jr. and Xavier Tillman.
