Victor Cruz, Chicago Bears agree to one-year contract

Victor Cruz is getting another shot after his run with the New York Giants ended this offseason.

The wide receiver agreed to a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears on Thursday, a person with knowledge of the deal told USA TODAY Sports' Tom Pelissero. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced.

NFL Network was first to report the deal. Cruz appeared to confirm the news in an Instagram post.

Cruz, 30, was released earlier this year after catching 39 passes for 586 yards and one touchdown in 2016, his first season back in almost two years after a run of injuries.

In Chicago, Cruz joins a receiving corps that returns Cameron Meredith and 2015 first-round pick Kevin White, though Alshon Jeffery signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in March. The Bears also added Markus Wheaton, Kendall Wright and Rueben Randle in free agency.

Cruz claimed in an interview on WWPR-FM earlier Thursday that the Giants froze him out in the passing game last season.

“I felt it all year long," Cruz said. "Halfway through the year, I’m balling; the other half I’m not getting the ball. And you’re just like, ‘What’s going on?’ It was like, ‘OK, I see what’s happening. They don’t want me here anymore.’ "

Giants coach Ben McAdoo said there was "no accuracy" to the claim.
