Offensive line recruiting is still a top priority for Michigan State's class of 2018 and the next few weeks should go a long way toward determining who the top prospects on the board are for the Spartans. One player the Spartan staff is keeping a close eye on is Nick Carey of Detroit Catholic Central High School.

Michigan State has yet to sign an offensive line recruit for the class of 2018. With summer camp approaching fast, several players are in the running to receive a scholarship offer. With a dozen scholarship offers already on the table and interest from a bevy of BCS programs, the 6'7, 291 lb. Carey is a prospect the Spartan staff is looking forward to seeing in June.

“Recruiting is going great! There have been many schools come by: Boston College, Pitt, Kentucky, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Purdue, Indiana, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, a few Ivy leagues and I feel like I'm missing a few. All of my offered schools have come in too," Carey said.

Carey is very familiar with the Spartan program and a scholarship offer from Mark Dantonio could be a game-changer in his recruitment.

“I've gone to camp there since freshman year. I've had multiple visits there (4 or 5 I think). I'd consider Michigan State to be a dream school for me and I'm working extremely hard to try and make it a possibility.”

One aspect that all colleges can appreciate is the coaching that Carey receives and the competition he plays against while attending Detroit Catholic Central. Under legendary coach Tom Mach, the Shamrocks always play an elite schedule and are routinely in the hunt for a state title. Carey is excited about his senior year.

“Our team is looking great and should be poised to take another shot at a state title.”

Carey is expected to be in East Lansing on June 17th to showcase his improvement over the last 12 months. A strong performance could allow him to follow the same path as 2017 Michigan State commitment Mustafa Khaleefah.

Spartans offer 4 Georgia prospects

On Wednesday, Michigan State offered four prospects from Buford High School in Georgia for the class of 2019. All four players are viewed as elite prospects and they already have multiple BCS scholarship offers. The prospects are athlete Derrian Brown, offensive tackle Colquitt Carter, offensive tackle Harry Miller and offensive guard Riley Simonds. The Spartans have stepped up their recruiting efforts in Georgia this year and are hoping to build in-roads with above players over the coming 18-months.
