On Nov. 22, 2016, an unknown make or model van hit Dakota and fled the scene going east on Princess Street toward Sprenkle Avenue in Hanover Borough, according to a Hanover Borough Police news release.

Dakota was transported to Hanover Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The van was described as a white, full size utility van with unknown writing on the side. It also had a ladder rack with a ladder on the roof.

The suspect was described as a white man, possibly with a beard, the release states.

Ginger Wright, Dakota's mother, posted a public plea on Facebook in the days after her daughter's death.

"To the van driver that killed my baby," she began the message. "I've never been through anything so immensely heartbreaking to see my child's last breath taken from her."

Wright implored the driver to turn himself in.

"That little girl you destroyed was a beautiful, spunky, sweet, caring baby with an infectious smile people couldn't help to be drawn to," Wright wrote. "She's touched so many lives, and for you to take that away from us -- I despise you with all my being."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have information about the incident is asked to call the Hanover Borough Police Department at 717-637-5575 or through York County 911.
