Rockin’ on the Riverfront returns with free concerts

Classic rockers from the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s return to the GM Plaza this summer for the annual Chevrolet Rockin’ on the Riverfront free concert series.

The evening outdoor shows are every Friday mid-July through mid-August and kick off July 14 with Night Ranger, a San Francisco band known for its 1984 power ballad “Sister Christian.”

Blues rockers George Thorogood and the Destroyers play July 21, Loverboy kicks of the weekend on July 28 and 1990s radio stars Gin Blossoms play Aug. 4.

Southern rockers 38 Special will likely play their hits “Hold On Loosely” and “Caught Up in You” on Aug. 11. The band includes original member Don Barns on lead vocals and guitar, and longtime member Danny Chauncey on guitar.

Post-grunge rock band Everclear closes out the series on Aug. 18 with their 1990s hits like “Santa Monica” and “I Will Buy You A New Life.”

The free shows run 7:30-10 p.m. and food and beverages are sold on site. Concert goers are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets, and boaters can anchor nearby to watch the show from the water.

Classic rock station WCSX-FM is holding a contest for Veterans, offering them reserved, exclusive seating. Interested vets can visit wcsx.com to enter for a chance to win.
