Work on a project to repair a 6.11-mile section of Route 74 began on Monday.

Drivers may encounter shifting traffic patterns and a single lane of travel in each direction on weekdays.

This is as crews do drainage and base repair operations in preparation for contract paving, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The work will stretch from the intersection of Broadway and Route 24, Main Street in Red Lion, to Delta Road east of the borough through Windsor and Chanceford townships, to the intersection with Felton Road, according to the release.

The project includes base repair, drainage work, curb cut work, removal of the top layer of asphalt, resurfacing the existing roadway, guide rail replacement and new signs and pavement markings, the release states.

Everything is expected to be completed by the end of October.

PennDOT advises drivers that the contractor has agreed not to conduct nighttime operations within the borough limits or to restrict travel lanes on Route 74 between 6 and 8:30 a.m., and between 3:30 and 6 p.m.

An exception is for a weekend detour that will be necessary to replace a large drainage pipe between Laurel Road and Felton Road in Chanceford Township, according to the release.
