Rackspace CEO Leaves to Lead ‘Smaller Private Company’
After spending more than a decade at Rackspace in multiple executive roles, company CEO Taylor Rhodes is leaving his position to become CEO of a smaller private company that doesn’t compete with Rackspace, he said in a company blog post.
Until the company board finds a permanent replacement, Rackspace President Jeff Cotten will serve as the interim CEO. Cotten is a “strong candidate for that position,” Rhodes wrote.
“Over the past eight years, [Cotten] has held a series of increasingly challenging leadership roles across key areas of the company, from customer support to sales and new business development…And he played a key role in developing and scaling our new services for customers who want us to run workloads for them on the infrastructure of Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure — and, in the near future, on the Google Cloud Platform,” Rhodes wrote.
Throughout his tenure, Rhodes helped the company gain market share in managed cloud services as it went private under the ownership of Apollo Global Management and its partners.
