MSU roundup: Softball blasts Rutgers, 14-2

Michigan State exploded for 18 hits and took the season series from Rutgers with a 14-2 victory over the Scarlet Knights on Sunday afternoon.

Fowlerville swept a twinbill from Williamston.

The Spartans, (27-20, 9-11 B1G), who lost on a walkoff on Saturday after winning in extra innings on Friday, got the bats going early. MSU took a 3-0 lead in the first, then rallied for four runs in the third and tacked on six in the fifth inning. Lea Foerster and Kelcey Carrasco each went 4-for-4, As Foerster posted a single, two doubles, and hit a home run.Kaitlyn Eveland (four RBI) and Lexi White also homered for the Spartans, who also smacked six doubles in the game - Eveland and Foerster each had two, with Ebonee Echols and Carrasco each posting one.

Kristina Zalewski earned the win with a five-inning complete game, striking out six and scattering eight hits in improving to 5-6 with her second victory of the weekend. She also pitched a complete game in Friday's extra-inning victory.

The Spartans, who have played five games in each of the last two weeks, will not play again until Friday, when MSU opens a three-game series at Indiana.
