Celtics' Isaiah Thomas at sister's eulogy: 'I wanted to give up'

USA TODAY Sports
Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas (4) gets a hug from guard Avery Bradley (0) after hitting a shot against the Chicago Bulls during the first quarter in game one of the first round of the 2017 NBA Playoffs.

Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens described what point guard Isaiah Thomas was dealing with as "unfathomable."

Thomas hasn't missed a game this postseason despite the tragic death of his sister, Chyna, on April 15. Thomas flew back to Washington state on Friday night to be with his family ahead of Saturday's funeral.

"When I found out the news I wanted to give up and quit," Thomas said in the eulogy. "And never in my life have I ever thought about quitting. I realized quitting isn't an option. That's the easy way out. I will keep going for my sister as I know she wouldn't want me to stop. I love you Chyna and I miss you so much. And everything I do for the rest of my life will be for you. I love you, girl."

Thomas flew back to Boston late Saturday and started Game 1 of their second-round series against the Washington Wizards.
