NFL draft Day 2 replay: Rounds 2 and 3

Round 2

33. Green Bay - Kevin King, CB, Washington

• The Packers got the second round started by making their first pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. They went on the defensive side of the ball, which is lightyears behind the Aaron Rodgers-led offense in Green Bay. Kevin King is a big, physical corner that stands 6-for-3 and weighs in at 200 pounds.

34. Jacksonville (from Seattle) - Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama

• The Jaguars gave up the 35th overall pick, as well as their sixth round pick (187th overall) to Seattle to move up one spot in the draft and select . Jacksonville is pretty set on the defensive side of the ball. Seeing them boost the offensive side of the ball for quarterback Blake Bortles and new running back Leonard Fournette is no surprise.

35. Seattle (from Jacksonville) - Malik McDowell, DE, Michigan State

• By all accounts, Malik McDowell failed to impress many teams during his pre-draft interviews. That didn't seem to bother the Seahawks, who could actually be a great fit for the former Spartan. The Seahawks have a history of effectively using guys with a bit of an edge (see Bruce Irvin). There was a lot of grumbling in East Lansing last year about McDowell's lack of effort, but that's not going to fly under Pete Carroll.

36. Arizona (from Chicago) - Budda Baker, S, Washington

• The Cardinals helped the Bears recoup some picks from last night's disaster, sending the 45th overall pick, the 119th overall pick and two sixth round selections to Chicago.

37. Buffalo (from Los Angeles Rams) - Zay Jones, WR, East Carolina

• Jones had 399 career receptions in college (158 in 2016), the most in Football Bowl Subdivision history.

38. Los Angeles Chargers - Forrest Lamp, G, Western Kentucky

39. New York Jets - Marcus Maye, S, Florida

40. Carolina - Curtis Samuel, ATH, Ohio State

• This one could have people scratching their heads a bit. The Panthers went with the ultimate do-everything player in Christian McCaffrey in the first round, and now they're taking a very similar guy in Samuel. That's not to say Samuel isn't a dynamic player. He is. It'll just be interesting to see how Carolina utilizes these two high draft picks next season with Cam Newton under center.

41. Minnesota (from Cincinnati) - Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State

• The Vikings traded the 48th overall pick and a fourth round selection (128th overall) to select . Not much a surprise here. With the departure of Adrian Peterson, Minnesota needed to continue address its backfield after signing Latavius Murray. Cook could very well end up being the best back in the draft. His skill set is that good.

42. New Orleans - Marcus Williams, S, Utah

43. Philadelphia - Sidney Jones, DB, Washington

44. Los Angeles Rams (from Buffalo) - Gerald Everett, TE, South Alabama

45. Chicago (from Arizona) - Adam Shaheen, TE, Ashland

46. Indianapolis - Quincy Wilson, DB, Florida

47. Baltimore - Tyus Bowser, LB, Houston

48. Cincinnati (from Minnesota) - Joe Mixon, RB, Oklahoma

• This could be the most polarizing pick of the second round. Mixon was caught on video punching a woman in the face. While the video is four years old, there are naturally a lot of character questions surrounding Mixon, who was actually rumored to be on the Lions draft board. As a football player, Mixon is rated by most analysts as one of the best players in the draft. His personal issues are obviously what caused this slide.

49. Washington - Ryan Anderson, LB, Alabama

50. Tampa Bay - Justin Evans, S, Texas A&M

51. Denver - DeMarcus Walker, DE, Florida State

52. Cleveland (from Tennessee) - DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame

• The Browns will hope they hit a home run with their three first round picks and can groom former Irish quarterback DeShone Kizer to be the next signal caller. At one point during the start of the 2016 college football season, there were murmurs that Kizer could be the top overall pick. The young man underwhelmed during his final season in South Bend.

53. Detroit - Teez Tabor, DB, Florida

• The Lions went with another defensive player from a stout Florida defense, taking Teez Tabor to help contribute to a secondary that has Darius Slay, Glover Quin and not much else. Tabor is not the quickest guy on the field, but he makes up for it with good size (6-foot, 199 pounds) and athleticism.

54. Miami - Raekwon McMillan, LB, Ohio State

55. New York Giants - Dalvin Tomlinson, DT, Alabama

56. Oakland - Obi Melifonwu, S, Connecticut

57. Houston - Zach Cunningham, LB, Vanderbilt

58. Seattle - Ethan Pocic, C, LSU

59. Kansas City - Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE, Villanova

60. Dallas - Chidobe Awuzie, CB, Colorado

61. Green Bay - Josh Jones, DB, N.C. State

• Josh Jones is a local product that played high school football at Walled Lake Western. Jones is a fast, aggressive player that flies around the football field. His aggression can sometimes come back to bite him if he misses the big hit. 

62. Pittsburgh - JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, USC

• The guy with the best name in the draft is off the board.

63. Buffalo (from Atlanta) -  Dion Dawkins, G, Temple

64. Carolina - Taylor Moton, OL, Western Michigan

• With Corey Davis off the board with the fifth overall pick to Tennessee, Taylor Moton was likely to be the next Broncos player off the board. Moton is an Okemos product, and he was a big reason for WMU's success running the ball in 2016.

65. Cleveland - Larry Ogunjobi, DT, Charlotte

66. San Francisco - Ahkello Witherspoon, DB, Colorado

67. New Orleans (from San Francisco) - Alvin Kamara, RB, Tennessee

68. Jacksonville - Dawuane Smoot, DE, Illinois

69. Los Angeles Rams - Cooper Kupp, WR, Eastern Washington

70. Minnesota (from New York Jets) - Pat Elflein, C, Ohio State

71. Los Angeles Chargers - Dan Feeney, G, Indiana

72. Tennessee (from New England) - Taywan Taylor, WR, Western Kentucky

73. Cincinnati - Jordan Willis, DE, Kansas State

74. Baltimore (from Philadelphia) - Chirs Wormley, DE, Michigan

• Wormley is the third Wolverine to come off the board, and the second from its vaunted 2016 defensive line. Wormley is a fighter, pure and simple. What he lacks in explosiveness, he more than makes up for with his desire to be a disruptor. He's got a thick frame that allows him to go toe-to-toe with offensive linemen.

75. Atlanta (from Buffalo) - Duke Riley, LB, LSU

76. New Orleans - Alex Anzalone, LB, Florida

77. Carolina (from Arizona) - Daeshon Hall, DE, Texas A&M

78. Baltimore - Tim Williams, LB, Alabama

• Williams is the eighth Crimson Tide player off the board.

79. New York Jets (from Minnesota) - ArDarius Stewart, WR, Alabama

• Make it nine for Alabama.

80. Indianapolis - Tarell Basham, DE, Ohio

81. Washington - Fabian Moreau, CB, UCLA

82. Denver - Carlos Henderson, WR, Louisiana Tech

83. New England (from Tennessee) - Derek Rivers, DE, Youngstown State

• In true Patriots fashion, this was the first pick of the draft for New England, who kept trading down to acquire more assets before finally selecting Rivers. 

84. Tampa Bay - Chris Godwin, WR, Penn State

85. New England (from Detroit) - Antonio Garcia, OT, Troy

• Well, now the Patriots have contacted old friend Bob Quinn and traded into the Lions 85th spot. The Lions received the 96th overall selection tonight, as well a fourth round selection tomorrow (124th overall).

86. Kansas City (from Minnesota) - Kareem Hunt, RB, Toledo

• This is a guy I thought the Lions may target with the 85th overall pick. The Lions have a need at running back, and a strong guy like this definitely would have fit in as a nice compliment to Ameer Abdullah.

87. New York Giants - Davis Webb, QB, California

88. Oakland - Eddie Vanderdoes, DT, UCLA

89. Houston - D'Onta Foreman, RB, Texas

• Another possible running back that had been mentioned as a fit for the Lions has gone off the board. The list of options at tailback that the Lions could justify drafting in the third round is dwindling.

90. Seattle - Shaquill Griffin, DB, Central Florida

91. Los Angeles Rams (from Buffalo) - John Johnson, S, Boston College

92. Dallas - Jourdan Lewis, CB, Michigan

• The former Wolverine was once thought to be a first round talent. Some off the field issues, combined with the depth of talent at the position caused Lewis to fall into the late third round. He's definitely got the talent to succeed at the next level, and he'll be paired with Michigan teammate Taco Charlton in big D.

93. Green Bay - Montravius Adams, DT, Auburn

94. Pittsburgh - Cameron Sutton, CB, Tennessee

95. Seattle (from Atlanta) - Delano Hill, S, Michigan

• Hill is the fifth Wolverine taken in the draft. He's the third to go on the second day. The fact that Michigan is starting to have its presence once again felt during the NFL Draft is a testament to the program's resurgence.

96. Detroit (from New England) - Kenny Golladay, WR, Northern Illinois

• At 6-foot-4, 213 pounds, the Lions got a big receiver to compliment Golden Tate and Marvin Jones. Matt Stafford likes to throw jump balls, and Golladay is definitely a guy that can go up over defenders and get it. Scouts say he needs to work on his route running.

97. Miami (compensatory) - Cordrea Tankersley, CB, Clemson

98. Arizona (compensatory from Panthers) - Chad Williams, WR, Grambling

99. Philadelphia (compensatory from Ravens) - Rasul Douglas, CB, West Virginia

100. Tennessee (compensatory from Rams) - Jonnu Smith, TE, Florida International

101. Denver (compensatory) - Brendan Langley, CB, Lamar

102. Seattle (compensatory) - Nazair Jones, DT, North Carolina

• Amara Darboh is as sure-handed receiver as you'll find coming from college to the pros. This guy isn't exceptionally fast, and he isn't an imposing figure (6-foot-2), but he catches the ball when it hits him in the numbers. He's also the sixth Wolverine off the board.
