Michigan State softball falls in walk-off loss to Central Michigan
Central Michigan's Erika Underwood delivered a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to give her team a 6-2 walk-off win over Michigan State on Wednesday afternoon.
MSU, which suffered its sixth walk-off loss this season, falls to 25-19. CMU improves to 31-13 with the victory.
The teams each scored in the first inning, with the Chippewas turning a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the opening frame. Kaitlyn Eveland tied the game on a solo homer in the fifth, which was the only scoring for either team until the Chippewa rally in the bottom of the seventh.
Jordan Watson took the loss (8-5), surrendering three hits in the seventh. Kristina Zalewski went six innings, scattering eight hits and striking out nine, tying her season high.
The Spartans travel to Piscataway, New Jersey, for a three-game Big Ten series that starts at 3 p.m. Friday.
