Former PSU QB Matt McGloin joins Philadelphia Eagles

Staff report
After three seasons with the Raiders, Matt McGloin has joined the Philadelphia Eagles as a backup quarterback.

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to terms with former Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin, the team said Monday.

McGloin, joining on a one-year deal, adds depth to the position, joining starter Carson Wentz and Nick Foles.

The Scranton native went from a walk-on at Penn State to a successful college career - becoming the starting quarterback in 2010 and throwing for 6,390 yards, 46 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.

After college, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Oakland Raiders, serving mostly as the team's backup quarterback. McGloin has completed 58.1 percent of his passes and thrown for 1,868 yards with 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in his NFL career.

Connor Cook, who started in the Raiders' playoff game this past season because of injuries to both starter Derek Carr and McGloin, is expected to compete with E.J. Manuel for Oakland's backup job.
