Computing Community Consortium Blog

The goal of the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) is to catalyze the computing research community to debate longer range, more audacious research challenges; to build consensus around research visions; to evolve the most promising visions toward clearly defined initiatives; and to work with the funding organizations to move challenges and visions toward funding initiatives. The purpose of this blog is to provide a more immediate, online mechanism for dissemination of visioning concepts and community discussion/debate about them.

International Symposium on Robotics Research 2017 Call for Papers

March 28th, 2017 / in Announcements / by Khari Douglas

ISRR logoThe 18th International Symposium on Robotics Research (ISRR ‘17) has released a call for papers.

ISRR ‘17, will take place December 11-14 in Puerto Varas, Chile. The symposium is seeking papers that offer new ideas and directions for the field of robotics.

The program will comprise a combination of invited talks and open submissions organized into interactive panels, keynotes, and debates. Accepted papers will be organized into topical panels, and the panel moderators will work with the authors of accepted papers to coordinate the presentations and maximize the interactivity of the session.

The papers and panel discussions will be edited into a proceedings volume after the workshop, and will appear as a Springer Star Series volume.

We encourage submissions from all areas of robotics research and research-based applications, including control, design, haptics, HRI, learning, manipulation, motion, perception, planning, and systems.

Papers can be submitted in two formats: Long Format, of up to 10 pages that offer research directions for areas which have established evidence, and Blue Sky Ideas Format that should be around 4 pages in length and describe novel, long term research opportunities that is outside of currently established topics and will incite thought-provoking discussion.

The Blue Sky Ideas format is sponsored by the Computing Community Consortium (CCC) as part of it’s mission to catalyze the computing research community. The goal of this initiative is to help conferences reach out beyond the usual research papers that present completed work and to seek out papers that present ideas and visions that can stimulate the research community to pursue new directions.

The CCC will provide prize money for the top 3 papers – first prize $1000, second prize $750, and third prize $500 – to be awarded as travel grants.

The timeline for paper submissions for ISRR ’17 is as follows:

  • May 15, 2017: Papers Due
  • August 1, 2017: Decisions announced
  • October 1, 2017: Camera ready due
  • December 11-14: Conference
