Man charged for setting parents' bedroom on fire

A suspect involved in setting a fire to his parents' bedroom turned himself in to police after seeing his story on Facebook and local news, according to a Maryland State Fire Marshal news release.

After a domestic dispute with his family, Shamir Dion Dowe set fire to their home and fled the scene, leaving his family members inside the residence, according to the fire marshal's news release.

The fire department was able to extinguish the fire, which caused about $2,500 in damage, within five minutes of their arrival, the release states.

Dowe, 28, of Edgewood, Maryland, turned himself into authorities at the Harford County Detention Center on March 23 for setting the fire in the 1200 block of Windy Branch Way in Edgewood on March 22, the release states.

Dowe was charged with first degree attempted murder, second degree attempted murder, first degree arson, first degree malicious burning, second degree malicious burning, first degree assault, second degree assault and reckless endangerment. He is currently waiting for his bond review, the release states.

He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 20, according to online court documents.
