Due to poor distribution in the UK, Essence often gets overlooked – really, that’s a mistake and one of the few budget brands I’d actively seek out when it’s difficult to find. They’re quite quick with trends, the quality is excellent (if I had to put on a par with anyone, it would be Bourjois) and it’s completely affordable. Here’s how it swatches with a sponge applicator straight from the palette. I know that because it’s multi coloured, and not ‘standard’ shades, it can be confusing to know what to do with it. You could add any of the colours as highlights on eyes, but it’s when they’re blended all together that it starts to become more obvious that it’s not as scary as it looks.
So in the swatch above, I’ve done one finger swipe across the whole thing and then a brush stroke, again across the whole thing. The result is a multi-shade, light catchy shimmer that shifts all ways but without giving you blue cheeks! It’s not going to be for everyone but at £3.50 a pop, it’s an easy win. I keep thinking if this brand was in Superdrug, people would be banging down the doors! As it is, it’s Wilko and Wilko.com only. I also know I’ve seen a similar highlighter from Lottie London but to be honest, I feel this has more shift and nuance.
