One of the most eagerly anticipated, skincare launches of the last year or so has to be the Double Cleanse Pixi and Caroline Hirons collaboration: a cleanser that takes the fuss out of efficient cleansing, brought to us by the lady I credit for introducing me and many others to the concept - double cleansing that is, I did wash my face before I began reading beauty blogs thank you very much. Once Pixi Double Cleanse landed on online, I snapped one up and began testing it out, much to the joy of my complexion, six weeks or so later I'm ready to share my thoughts in full...
If you are familiar with say the likes of Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm, then you will know roughly what to expect it terms of product size: Pixi Double Cleanse is a fairly bulky and substantially sized tub - not so much that you would be put off, packing it for a trip away but large enough, that you really feel that you get plenty of bang for your buck. It isn't overly weight so it can be easily transported around: secure (there is a plastic shifter under the initial lid to protect the product) and not too weighty, all this despite holding two large portions (2 x 50ml) of different cleansers.
Did I double cleanse all that regularly before owning Pixi Double Cleanse? In a word no but for legitimate reasons - well I think so anyway. If away from home, admittedly I am not going to pack two cleansers, I don't have the time nor gumption to route around my stash for various minis and even if I do, I'm not always sure which cleansers work best as a tag team duo. Sure I get the basis: an oil and a cream but if the ingredients in each cleanser are counterproductive, I could end up doing more harm than good. Without sounding too kiss ass-y, the Pixi Double Cleanse by Caroline Hirons is a stroke of genius - no guess work, just two well formulated cleansers that work equally well in unison or as individual products and should be suited to most skin types, ages and needs.
Don't worry if you are not overly familiar with double cleansing as a practise - we've all got to start somewhere; in essence double cleansing means just that - cleansing twice. In layman's terms, you cleanse your face once to remove traces of the day: dirt, make-up, oil and then follow up with a second cleansing option, to ensure that the complexion is squeaky clean and often inject skin boosting ingredients via facial massage - personally I do think this is crucial if you wear a daily SPF. The Pixi Double Cleanse by Caroline Hirons makes this process a breeze: it's conveniently laid out (each compartment is numbered in steps), not eye-wateringly expensive and most importantly both cleansers are wonderfully formulated.
It is suggested that you utilise the Pixi Solid Cleansing Oil as your first cleansing option - as the name suggests this is a solid balm, that transforms into an oil once combined with the heat of your skin and then somewhat emulsifies once combined with water. Now I'm not advocating a half assed cleansing routine but if ever you are tired and can only think about sleeping, this is the segment to dip into. The cleansing oil will swiftly remove SPF, waterproof make-up and anything else you may have on your face without compromising skin comfort - a.k.a it won't strip or irritate the complexion. The oil itself is packed with Vitamin E to protects and condition, Camellia Oil rich in Omega to nourish and Evening Primrose Oil to heal and moisturise - not to mention it is fragrance free. This is no way endorsed by either creator of the Pixi Double Cleanse but if using a facial brush, this is what I use in lieu of a foaming cleanser: it has enough slip and the oil base acts as a barrier against my often heavy handed methods.
Step 2: this involves a soft, luxurious cleansing cream which instantly feels cooling and refreshing on the skin. I know technically there aren't massive, lasting benefits of any cleanser, as you do rinse it off - other than to create a fresh canvas that is - but this feels like a rich moisturiser on the skin. If my complexion was to suddenly dry out for whatever reason, this is what I'd reach for, it is comforting and yet not so heavy my typically oily skin feels overwhelmed. The ingredient line up is rather impressive: Vitamin C to promotes collagen production, a Peptide Complex to help relax lines and plump the skin, and Arginine to improve overall cell renewal and elasticity.
Think of this as your non-brainer cleansing system - be it at home or on-the-go: it is fuss free, easy to use and will leave your skin thoroughly cleansed, feeling great and in my experience clearer and brighter - maybe I'm finally removing every scrap of SPF that I so diligently apply. I also personally enjoy the fact that at £24 it is fairly affordable and as with all Pixi products this has not been tested on animals.
