LANSING - A 30-year-old man was shot and killed outside a party store Thursday night in Lansing, officials said.

Police say a man was shot Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017 in Lansing, in the 800 block of Baker Street.

Police were called to the 800 block of Baker Street in response to a shooting at about 9:30 p.m., said Lansing Police Public Information Director Robert Merritt.

They found Willie Calvin Williamson, of Lansing, unresponsive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders performed CPR at the scene, and Williamson was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police believe Williamson and the suspect knew each other but have not made any arrests.

Investigators believe the fight began inside the party store before moving outside, where the suspect fired at Williamson before fleeing. He is described as a light-skinned black male 25 to 40 years old with a thick mustache and wearing blue jeans.

It is the city's fifth homicide in 2017.

The Greater Lansing area had 11 homicides in 2016, eight of which were investigated by the Lansing Police Department. Lansing's first homicide in 2016 didn't occur until March 1, according to State Journal records, and the city's fifth homicide occurred on Aug. 18.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call Detective Mark Lewandowsky at 483-6859.
