LANSING - Police and prosecutors will hold a news conference Wednesday afternoon to provide an update on an investigation into sexual assault allegations against former MSU doctor Larry Nassar, according a media advisory.

A spokeswoman for Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, whose office is prosecuting Nassar, declined to give details about what would be discussed during the news conference.

Nassar, 53, of Holt, faces sexual assault charges in Ingham County Circuit Court and child pornography charges in federal court in Grand Rapids. Nassar, who was fired by MSU in September, has not been charged in connection to his role as a doctor.

More than 60 women or girls have made sexual assault allegations against Nassar since September, officials have said. More than 40 have filed lawsuits against MSU and Nassar saying that they were sexually assaulted during medical appointments.

Many of the allegations date back decades and involve medical procedures that included digital vaginal and anal penetration.

Nassar, through his attorneys, has denied any wrongdoing and said he performed legitimate medical procedures.
