Penn State York falls in title game

The Penn State York men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought battle against Penn State Greater Allegheny in the title game of the Penn State University Athletic Conference tournament on Sunday. Greater Allegheny earned a 60-58 victory.

Greater Allegheny took a 33-30 lead into halftime and outslugged the local Lions in the second half as well. The visitors routinely pushed to five- or six-point leads before the local Lions closed the gap, but Penn State York struggled to hold a sustained lead.

Jordan Payne scored a game-high 29 points for Greater Allegheny, and Curtis Newby added 14 points, with 10 of those coming in the second half.

Penn State York's Trent Thomas led his team with 22 points, while freshman starter Calvin Luckenbaugh, a  Central York graduate, added 14 points and sank both of his free throws.

Collectively, the local Lions shot 7-of-17 from the free-throw line, while Greater Allegheny went 5-of-8.
